FVU

FVU is flexible and free of charge. Starting from articles and other texts we write and speak about topics that are relevant to you and your everyday life in Denmark.

What it is

A series of five courses during which you will obtain Danish language skills to just above level B2. Based on articles or other texts, the tuition in class will focus on questions and conversations between teachers and students. Topics are not fixed. We will read, write and talk about current issues that are relevant to your everyday life at school, work, and at home.

You will learn to

  • write and communicate via emails, letters and similar messages
  • read and understand Danish newspaper and magazine articles
  • participate in conversations about current and relevant topics
  • expand your vocabulary and improve your pronunciation

There is an optional test after level 1,2,3 and 4.

Courses

Start

You will work with:

Grammar/vocabulary: Constructing sentences and expanding your vocabulary.

Oral communication: Developing your vocabulary and linguistic creativity.

Level 1

You will work with:

Write / read: Reading and writing simple relevant texts.

Grammar/vocabulary: Constructing sentences and expanding your vocabulary.

Oral communication: Developing your vocabulary and linguistic creativity.

Level 2

You will work with:

Write / read: Reading and writing shorter texts that are relevant to your everyday life.

Grammar/vocabulary: Constructing sentences and expanding your vocabulary.

Oral communication: Expanding your vocabulary and improving your pronunciation.

Level 3

Write / read: Reading and writing longer texts that are relevant to your everyday life.

Grammar/vocabulary: Constructing sentences and expanding your vocabulary.

Oral communication: Learning typical Danish phrases and expressions and developing your linguistic creativity.

Level 4

Write / read: Reading texts at a high level and incorporating relevant subject related expressions and words from your everyday life.

Grammar/vocabulary: Constructing sentences at a high level and expanding your vocabulary.

Oral communication:

Acquiring knowledge of the meaning of subject-related words and sentences.

Requirements

Basic Danish language skills.

Before you start at FVU, you are invited to a language screening. In this way, we ensure that you start at the right level for you. The screening is a requirement to start at our FVU courses.

If you have passed Prøve i Dansk 1, 2 or 3 you can still continue on FVU and learn more Danish.

Duration

40-80 lessons per course, usually distributed over one semester.

  • Daytime: 3 times x 3 lessons in class per week + preparation or
  • Daytime: 2 times x 3 lessons in class per week +  preparation (possible to combine with our SPEAKING DANISH courses or other Danish classes taken at other schools)
  • Evenings: 2 times x 2.5 lessons in class per week + preparation or
  • Evenings: 1 time x 3.2 lessons in class per week + preparation (possible to combine with our SPEAKING DANISH courses or other Danish classes taken at other schools).

Here you sign up here for the FVU course. You also sign up for the mandatory language screening. The screening will take approx. 30 minutes or 90 minutes depending on your Danish level

Practicalities

The curricula for our courses are based on particular books. You can borrow the books from us.

After the course

Some of the FVU courses lead to certain formal rights.

Residence

Participant who pass level 2 can apply for a permanent residence permit in Denmark.

Citizenship

When you pass level 4 and the Citizenship Exam, you can apply for Danish citizenship.

Educations

FVU is also a requirement to enter various secondary and/or vocational educations in Denmark.
