Personal profile

I always find it hard to describe myself, but there are three things that certainly characterize me: communicative, extremely organized and curious! Something that I really appreciate is spending time with friends and having some quality time together with them over a cup of coffee while talking about different things in life, such as perspectives and ambitions. When it comes to hobbies I would definitely say that speaking foreign languages is my favorite one. I find it challenging and at the same time fun to switch between languages quickly. I can speak English, Portuguese, German fluently and some Spanish, French and Danish as well. Another thing that I enjoy is being helpful to others, and that is one of the reasons why I chose to become a Lærdansk Ambassador.

Your student experience at Lærdansk Aarhus

Lærdansk is the nicest language school I have ever been so far! No kidding. There are a lot of extra activities that students can take part and all of them are organized by volunteers, which is amazing. This shows how Danes really appreciate doing volunteering work and by doing it as well you get to know more about their culture. Furthermore, the school atmosphere is very cozy, so you could spend the whole day there. Although challenging, Lærdansk offers a lot of resources that you need to learn Danish, so if you are really into that, I am confident that you can achieve it.

A funny experience from when you started to learn/use the Danish language

Once I tried to explain to the bus driver in Copenhagen that I wanted a ticket to Nørreport station. Unfortunately, he understood that I wanted to go to the airport, which is much further and therefore charged me much more for the ride. At the time, I was very frustrated about it, but later on I realised how important it is to learn how to pronounce the words in Danish properly. Now I am confident at least that I can say Nørreport correctly :p

Your experience as an Ambassador

To understand what it is like to be a Lærdansk Ambassador you have to picture yourself in a position where you are responsible for helping a lot of students. As I said before, I appreciate helping others and there are many ways of doing it if you work as an ambassador. You will be responsible for telling the students about the deadlines of the Danish courses, interacting and sharing experiences with them in social events and creating a project that will be your baby for a couple of weeks. The project, particularly, was very fun for me. I learned a lot about Denmark by doing it! But what I liked the most during this volunteer experience was the networking that I was able to create. You can really count on the Lærdansk Ambassadors. It is like having a small family during your stay in Denmark.

Short description of your individual project

My individual project for social media was named ‘God Rejse!’ (Have a nice trip!). Since I like to travel and see new places, my idea was to research about destinations in Denmark and share them in a fun way. The posts provided background information, suggestions of museums, parks or activities that could be experienced in a city and the students had to guess what town it was. By the end of the project, it was possible to learn about at least one travel destination in each region of Denmark, and of course to learn some new Danish words.
