A way to live happily in another country

I’m a scientist in physics and chemistry at Syddansk University and started to learn Danish in 2008, but at one point I had to take a short break. Now I’ve started with Lærdansk and receive tuition at the university. It’s easy and practical in relation to my work hours. At work, Danish isn’t that important. I work in an international environment, where it’s fine to speak English all day long. All my colleagues speak English and a lot of my friends are also foreigners.
An education in itself
But on the personal level it’s very important to me to learn Danish. It is always difficult to arrive in a new country alone. For me, it’s an education in itself to live a few years in another country. To learn the language is a way to try to live happily while living abroad. Quite simply, I feel more at home when I know the language.
